Irrespective of his dark legacy, at the end of the day Anton Szandor LaVey (born Howard Stanton Levey) was just another dork. A rank jewish huckster. He had a genuine interest in the occult at the start of his career, but more significantly he soon realized he could shake down some shekels from the gullible goy by looking sinister, adopting a solemn, mysterious tone and presence, and parading around in devil jammies.

It worked like a charm.

Not only that, he had sexual congress with lots of stupid shiksas. Hollywood types in particular flocked to his "black masses". Actress Jayne Mansfield being one of them.

In 1980 the FBI got wind of a supposed plot to assassinate Ted Kennedy. LaVey's name was mentioned. Some agents came to interview him at "The Black House" in San Francisco. LaVey/Levey made a frank confession: most of his "church's" followers he told the agents were “fanatics, cultists, and weirdos."

"His interest in the Church of Satan is strictly from a monetary point of view and he spends most of his time furnishing interviews, writing material, and lately has become interested in photography” the agents stated in their report.

I recall reading where even his daughter admitted what a charlatan LaVey was. The "Black Pope" was of a sarcastic disposition and could usually be found wandering around the house in his underwear... unshaven... and with a can of beer in his hand.

It's been denied by his followers but others (his daughter?) said that as he lay dying in St. Mary's Catholic Hospital in San Francisco he repeatedly said, "Something is very wrong! What have I done?"

Why are there no atheistic and satanic hospitals for all the atheists and satanists to go to die?
